A 4 rain retention cistern holds back precipitation and releases it to the sewer system with a time delay. The canal is relieved in the event of precipitation. A so-called discharge throttle regulates the flow of water to the sewer with 0.05 to 2l /s. When it rains heavily, the water level in the cistern rises briefly and then sinks again after the rain. 4 rain retention cisterns also have an emergency overflow, that prevents the storage tank from overflowing.
